Early in my life I realized how lucky I was to grow up in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. I was surrounded by rich, natural beauty, great museums and the tradition of artists from all over the world finding inspiration and translating the golden light into wonderful art. For many years I sailed the bay and stood on the edge of the Pacific, recording her moods and wondering what lay over the horizon. Storms would bring the smell of the tropics awakening dreams of South Pacific adventure.
Over the years I have been fortunate to discover and paint the islands of Hawaii and more recently, the leeward islands of Tahiti. The South Seas, California and Hawaii have changed since the coming of 'civilization', but the wind, sky and sea remain and are a source of joy and creativity. The challenge of painting plein air is as intense as when I began. Capturing the fleeting light while burned by the sun or soaked by a passing tropical storm is an ongoing rite of passage. I invite you to celebrate with me through my work, the joy of a life well-lived.
